On 5th March, our Acorn team came together ahead of International Women’s Day with our Celebrate a Woman Wall, an initiative designed to recognise and appreciate which women who inspire us every day. The event brought our teams together to reflect, share stories, and recognise the impact women have across our workplace, communities, and industry. Including some women in STEM who have been successful within their careers

This year, we were proud to support Women’s Aid, a charity that works tirelessly to support women and children experiencing domestic abuse and to campaign for lasting change.

Throughout the day, colleagues were invited to write the name of a woman who inspires them and share why. These messages were then added to our Celebrate a Woman Wall, creating a powerful display of appreciation, recognition, and solidarity across the business.

Supporting an Important Cause

Alongside the activity, we also encouraged kind donations to help support the vital work carried out by Women’s Aid, helping ensure that women and children can access the safety, support, and resources they need. This charity was founded in 1974 with a domestic violence helpline which was established in the 1980’s. This present day they continue to run as a strong network campaigning against coercive control. They encourage women experiencing domestic abuse to seek support and remind them that they are not alone. Through their services, they empower women to find strength, rebuild confidence, and take steps towards a safer future for themselves and their families.

By providing access to safe spaces, expert guidance, and a supportive community, Women’s Aid helps women understand their options and supports them in making decisions that are right for them. Their work ensures that no woman has to face abuse in silence, offering hope, protection, and the reassurance that help is always available no matter what.

What is Domestic Abuse?

This is where abuse occurs as an incident or a pattern. Including controlling, threatening, coercive or degrading behaviour. The violent behaviour can be physical, emotional or even sexual. The perpetrator is usually a partner or ex partner however can also be carried out by a carer or family member. No one should suffer and tolerate abuse as it is not okay, people usually feel trapped like there is no way out however there are so many survivors who have escaped and shared their story.

Through collective support from across the Acorn team, we were proud to raise awareness and contribute towards an organisation making a real difference. Thank you to everyone who kindly donated, we managed to raise £165 in total. This was achieved in such a small amount of time with the fundraising page only being launched a week prior to the charity initiative.

The Future ahead

While International Women’s Day is an important moment to reflect and celebrate, our commitment to supporting equality, respect, and wellbeing continues throughout the year.

We massively appreciate everyone who took the time to share their messages, recognise inspiring women, and support the initiative. Your contributions helped create a meaningful moment that reflects the values we hold at Acorn — Respecting Each Other, Supporting Our Business, and creating A Happy Place for all.

Together, we continue to celebrate the people who inspire us and support causes that help build a safer and more inclusive future. Even though it is only one recognised day we always should look up to those role models who inspire us to be the people we are today.
